Could contactless dining be the answer to the covid-19 crisis for our local restaurants?

Although completely eradicating contact in restaurants is not possible, restaurants can reduce a fair bit of touchpoints by using technology. Restaurants can adapt to Digital Menu, which could be accessed on guest mobile phones. Digital menu’s remove a t of touchpoints in restaurants.

The key here is to have a web app, the menu should be accessed on the browser, as guests will be hesitant to download the app. Guests can get seated, scan the QR code on the table without any contact, place order, make payments, and leave the restaurant. This process avoids coming in contact with menu cards, bills, cash(change) as everything is digital.

By using the digital menu, guests can communicate with the waiter and kitchen through their mobile itself, rather than having direct communication. Guests can enter their customization for their order, request waiter for water/cutlery and so much more from their mobile. This considerably reduces the interactions, thereby improving the safety standard.

Implementing a digital menu is one step towards contactless dining in restaurants that would convince guests to dine in at restaurants comfortably as the number of touchpoints is reduced.

How to setup Digital Menus in restaurants?

Zomato and other third-party vendors are introducing the same, but are failing in two areas, zomato is charging 4% of the order value + 1.25% payment gateway charges for each order placed. Also, it is not integrated with a POS system that has kitchen communication, table-wise pricing, live item stock details alls these are essential for successfully implementing digital menus.

Imagine a restaurant that process 300 bills of average bill value of 400, that’s a business of 1,20,000 per day out of which restaurants have to shell out 6000 per day for digital menu to these third-party platforms. Time again, third party platforms are trying to kill restaurant's growth by putting themselves ahead.

GOFRUGAL has launched a QR code-based digital menu with its cloud POS that does not work on exuberant per order charges. This makes operations convenient, easy, and hassle-free.

Full disclosure, I work for GOFRUGAL, and if you’re a restauranteur looking to implement Digital Menu you can visit GOFRUGAL website and register for the same.
