Do you know how to add new values at an Item Hierarchy Level?

The Item Hierarchy or the Category Tree structure is used to set up the categorization of the items for the structural designing, reporting as well as for the Online website or Mobile Apps category structure.

 

Benefits:

By adding new values in the Item Hierarchy Level, we will create the Category list as desired.


Currently, there are 2 ways of adding new values at an Item hierarchy level:
  • From Category Master

  • From Item Master - Category Tab.

Let me show you the Category Master process first.

Step 1:  Go to Inventory > Masters > Category.


Step 2: In the Category Field, press F2 to bring up the Category Details LOV.

 

Step 3: Select the desired Main Category Name under which you want to create.  

 

Step 4: Suppose I want to create "New Department" under the Category "Department". So Select the Category as Department and Type New Department in the "Category Name" field.  

 

Step 5: Click on F6 Save button to save the Category.

(Note: Key settings may vary from user to user, you can click on the blank button just beside F1 Key to change the key combinations to find the desired key)

 

Let me show you the Item Master - Category Tab process.

Step 1: Go to Inventory > Masters > Items to create or edit an item.

 

Step 2: Create a new item by pressing F3 New or Edit an existing item by pressing F4 Edit. Put / check all the details and go to the Category Attributes Tab.



Step 3: Select the desired field and press Shift & "+" sign together for Laptops or the "+" sign in Numpad section of the full size keyboard.  

 

Step 4: The Category Master window opens, where we can create new sub categories under the main categories.



Step 5: Suppose we want to create a "New Department 123" under the category "Department". Select the Category as Department by pressing the F2 button. Then type "New Department 123" and click on F6 Save button.

 

After saving the department, it gets listed in the Category Details section of the Category Master window. It's a confirmation that the sub category is successfully created.



Step 6: Now if you select the Department field and press F2 the Category Details list will appear and you will see that the newly created Category is listed there.

 

Like wise, you can create other categories as well, see the screenshots for your reference.

 

*** Note: If you want to do the Parenting process where you will select the parents of each sub-layer, see the screenshot for your reference:

 

While creating the categories, select the Parent Code field and press F2 to select the desired parent category from the list.

 


Below screenshot depicts, what complete information of a category will look like. Click on F6 Save to save changes.

 

Just like earlier, press F2 to select the value from the list.

 

After creating and mapping all the categories, the Item Master Category Attributes tab details should look like the below screenshot.

Click on F6 Save to complete the setup.


We need to do a configuration to activate the Category Tree Structure in the POS.

Please do the following steps to complete the Category Tree structure configuration in POS:

Step 1: Go to Tools > Configuration > Configuration.

 

Step 2: In the Master Configurations panel, search for "No 9 Show category based on hierarchy and parent category" and activate that buy put Tick ✔ in the value field and click on Save button.

 

 

Conclusion:

Category Tree structure is a must to have feature for the online ordering apps as well as for the E-Commerce portals.
