Item Category

Purpose:


 

An Item Category represents a group or collection of items with similar characteristics. It enables efficient categorization for pricing and reporting purposes. For example, an apparel store can categorize products like kids' dresses by color or size.

 

Purpose  

  1. Group Similar Items: To distinguish groups of items sharing common features.

  2. Enhance Reporting: To identify the most popular categories through detailed reports.

  1. Improved Reporting: Easily track the performance of different product types, brands, or packaging sizes.

  2. Better Inventory Management: Group items based on similar characteristics for more efficient stock management.

Steps to Create an Item Category

 

Step 1 : Go to Masters >> Item >> Item Category

Step 2 : To create a new category, select the edit button.

Step 3 : Specify Category head name.

Step 4 : Select "Active" or "Inactive" status from the list.

Step 5 : Choose "Yes" or "No" from the "Is Mandatory" list item.

Note :-

  • Yes - to specify that a grouping value (i.e., Category Value) is required for each item in the Item screen and that this category applies to all items.

  • No - to specify that a grouping value is optional in the item screen and that this category only applies to a small number of items.

Step 6 : Click on Update to Save the Changes.

Step 7 : Either log out, then re-login or press F5 to apply the changes made.

5. What happens if I select "No" in the "Is Mandatory" field?  

Answer: The category becomes optional, and only a subset of items can be mapped to it.

6. How do I view reports for a specific category?  

Answer: Navigate to Reports > Item Reports and filter by category to view detailed sales and inventory data.

7. Can I modify category values later?  

Answer: Yes, category values can be edited anytime by accessing the Item Category screen.
