Merging duplicate categories in HQ.

This document outlines the process for merging categories within the GOFRUGAL HQ system. Merging categories can help streamline inventory management, improve reporting accuracy, and enhance the user experience.

When to Merge Categories?

Duplicate Categories: If you have identified categories with identical descriptions or purposes, merging them can eliminate redundancy and simplify data management.

Improved Organization: Merging categories can enhance the overall organization of your product catalog, making it easier for users to find what they need.

Before You Begin

Identify Categories to Merge: Carefully evaluate your product catalog and pinpoint categories that are suitable for merging. Consider factors like product type, sales history, and customer behavior.

Data Backup: It's crucial to create a backup of your current category masters in excel or any spreadsheet data before proceeding. This ensures you can cross-check the old and new data at any point of time.

Impact Assessment: Assess the potential impact of the merger on reports, workflows, and user experience. Communicate the upcoming changes to relevant stakeholders.

The Merge Process

Step 1: Click on MDM > Attribute Master Management > Category Merge

Step 2: Click on the Add/Delete button.

Step 3: Click on the "+ Add New" button.

Step 4: Select the Category.

Step 5: Select the Source Category.

Step 6: Select the Category to be Merged.

Step 7: Click on the Add button.

Step 8: Put a tick on the newly added Merge action.

Step 9: Click on the Bulk Merge button to complete the process.

Post-Merge Tasks

Data Verification: After the merge is complete, verify that product data has been migrated accurately to the target category.

Report Updates: Ensure that any reports relying on the merged categories are updated to reflect the changes.

User Communication: Inform relevant users about the category merger and any adjustments they might need to make in their workflows.

By following these steps and considering the potential implications, you can effectively merge categories within GOFRUGAL HQ to optimize your inventory management and enhance the overall system experience.
