All About Shelf Talker

Shelf Talker (Purpose)

In supermarkets, product pricing and promotional details are commonly displayed using Rack Labels and Price Standees. These visual elements help customers quickly identify item prices, discounts, and ongoing offers directly from shelves or display areas.

What is Shelf Talker?

Shelf Talker is a dedicated feature designed to print rack labels and standees on A4 sheets, offering a cost-effective and flexible alternative to traditional sticker-based printing.

Key Purpose and Benefits

  • Cost Reduction
Eliminates the need for sticker paper, reducing stationery expenses by enabling printing on standard A4 sheets.

  • Better Visibility
Supports larger font sizes, making prices and offers visible from a distance, improving customer engagement.

  • Enhanced Customer Attraction
Eye-catching labels act as silent promoters, drawing customer attention toward products and increasing the likelihood of purchase.

  • Operational Flexibility
Allows businesses to quickly design and print labels as needed, without dependency on specialized printing materials.

  • Improved In-store Communication
Acts as a “silent salesperson,” where the shelf itself communicates pricing and offers effectively to customers.

Concept Overview

Shelf Talker transforms traditional shelf labeling into a more impactful visual merchandising tool, ensuring that product information is not just displayed—but actively engages and influences customer buying decisions.

Note:

  • Price Levels, Promotions & Item Discounts will not be reflected in the Shelf Talker output.

  • Shelf Talker is a custom-licensed feature and must be purchased separately to use it.

  • The system will display the latest item rate details along with Buy X Get Y offer information, based strictly on the configured X and Y values.

These constraints should be considered while configuring and using Shelf Talker to ensure accurate expectations and output.

Supported Price Formats in Shelf Talker

Shelf Talker currently supports the following price display format:

  1. Price Format

  • Rs. X Only

    • Format: Rs. <Selling Rate> Only

Example

  • Rs. 99 Only

  • Rs. 149 Only

This standardized format ensures clear, consistent, and customer-friendly price communication across all printed shelf labels.

Note:

  • All the data in Shelf Talker will be auto-adjusted based on the field length, ensuring proper alignment and readability in the printed output.

  1. Discount Format

  • Rs. X Off on MRP (Printed as: Rs. X Off)

    • Calculation Logic: Rs. <MRP – Selling Rate> Off

Example

  • MRP: Rs. 200

  • Selling Rate: Rs. 150

  • Output: Rs. 50 Off

This format helps highlight direct savings to customers, making offers more impactful and easier to understand at a glance.

Note:

  • If Selling Rate = MRP, the system will display “0 Off on MRP”.

  • All the data will be auto-adjusted based on the field length, ensuring proper formatting and readability.

  1. Buy X Get Y Offer Format

Offer Type

  • Buy X Get Y – [Manual]

    • Here, X and Y represent quantity values.

Key Details

  • This is a manually configured offer format.

  • Users can define the purchase quantity (X) and the free quantity (Y).

  • The Shelf Talker will display the offer clearly based on the entered values.

Example

  • Buy 2 Get 1

  • Buy 1 Get 1

This format is highly effective for attracting customer attention and encouraging bulk purchases, thereby improving overall sales conversion at the shelf level.

Note:

  • X & Y values (for offers) should be entered manually while printing the A4 sheet.

  • All the data will be auto-adjusted based on the field length, ensuring proper alignment and readability.

  1. Percentage Discount Format

Discount Format

  • X% Off on MRP(Printed as: X% Off)

    • Calculation Logic:
      (MRP – Selling Rate) × 100 / MRP

Example

  • MRP: Rs. 500

  • Selling Rate: Rs. 400

  • Discount % = (500 – 400) × 100 / 500 = 20%

  • Output: 20% Off

This format helps customers quickly understand the percentage savings, making it easier to compare deals and encouraging faster purchase decisions.

Note:

  • If Selling Rate = MRP, the system will display “0% Off”.

  • All the data will be auto-adjusted based on the field length, ensuring proper formatting and readability.

  1. UOM (Unit of Measure) Price Display

  • If the user chooses to print the UOM Price of the product, it will be displayed in a 30-degree angular format.

  • The UOM price will appear at the top-left corner of the printed Shelf Talker.

Key Purpose

  • Highlights price per unit (e.g., per kg, per liter, per piece)

  • Helps customers make better price comparisons

  • Enhances transparency in pricing

This angled presentation ensures that the UOM price stands out distinctly without interfering with the main pricing and offer details.

Note:

  • All the data in the Shelf Talker will be auto-adjusted based on the length of the field, ensuring:

    • Proper alignment

    • Consistent formatting

    • Clear readability across all printed labels

This dynamic adjustment helps maintain a clean and professional layout, regardless of variations in item names, prices, or offer details.

UOM Qty & UOM Type

The UOM Qty and UOM Type fields are used to ensure that the correct unit quantity and unit type are reflected in the Shelf Talker print, based on the user’s selection.

Purpose

  • UOM Quantity and UOM Type are supported only for the “Rs. X Only” and “Rs. X Off on MRP” selling price formats.

The preview below demonstrates how unit price formats are displayed in the print output.

Note:

  • For example, if the Selling Price is Rs. 600, UOM Qty is 3, and UOM Type is Per KG, then the unit price will be Rs. 200 per KG.
